HATCH in St Albans, described by happy punters as “absolutely brilliant”, is a cafe and diner serving a range of tasty meals like brunch, burgers, waffles and salads.

It boasts a 4.7/ 5 Tripadvisor rating from more than 600 reviews and in 2025 earned a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice badge. It also has an impressive 4.8/ 5 Google rating from more than 1,200 reviews.

The independently owned restaurant has been welcoming customers since 2013 and aims to combine “great food with friendly service in a casual environment”, according to HATCH.

Offering a range of experiences, guests can enjoy the daytime brunch menu, where they can enjoy HATCH “favourites cooked just as you like”.

As well as the special NYC Nights, which take place on Wednesday to Saturday from 5pm.

At NYC Nights, guests can enjoy meals like corn ribs, chicken parmigiana, chicken waffles, and burgers like the King Louis and double cheese.

Guests looking for brunch at HATCH can pick from options like Greek avocado toast, sweetcorn fritters, truffle benedict, full English and salads.

Although HATCH is praised for a range of food and drink items, it’s the burgers that earn it the most love.

The popular restaurant serves burgers like the chicken schnitzel, the buffalo, cajun chicken and the KATZ – a burger inspired and named after the famous KATZ’s deli in New York, known for its salt beef and Reuben sandwiches.
