‘I missed it a lot’ – Kyprianou ready for pre-season after ankle lay-off

The midfielder played 26 times in the first half of 2025/26 before suffering an injury that saw him miss the final three months of the campaign.

He was beginning to join in with first-team training under Ed Still in April, before remaining at London Colney after the campaign had finished and then returning early to get himself in the best possible shape.

Now, the Cyprus international claims, he is ready to go – with the first-team squad returning to London Colney today (Monday) for the first day of pre-season.

He told the club website: “I stayed the week after the end of the season to finish my rehab.

“Then I went to see one of my friends in America and had a bit of downtime there.

“I had to come back throughout the off-season to do some more rehab and keep myself fit and get my ankle right. Now I’m back a week early and ready for pre-season.

“It was good to have a little break, but I was out for quite a while so I’m raring to get going again.

“I missed it a lot – the intensity and the competitiveness is what I live for.”

Kyprianou will be a welcome returnee, with Papy Mendy released and Pierre Ekwah unlikely to return after his loan spell from Saint-Etienne.

Imran Louza, Edo Kayembe and Edoardo Bove are the established contracted players, while Jack Grieves is also competing for minutes in the centre of the pitch.

In order to prepare himself, Kyprianou spent last week at the training ground with Kevin Keben, Othmane Maamma, Grieves and Leo Ramirez-Espain.

He said: “I love being on the pitch, so it was a tough time for me to be in the gym.

“I saw the boys outside last season and I missed it a lot, so I’m just itching to get back, playing with the lads, training and playing games.

“It’s been pretty basic – in the gym, doing some runs on the pitch, a bit of ball work.

“Nothing too crazy, but it is allowing us to get back to our schedule.”
