Hertfordshire teen charged with preparing to commit act of terrorism

The 17-year-old from Hatfield was arrested on April 21 as part of an investigation by the Eastern Region Special Operations Unit.

He appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court today (Friday May 22).

He faces one count of engaging in conduct in preparation for an act of terrorism under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

He also faces two counts of disseminating terrorist publications under Section 2 of the Terrorism Act 2006.

The teenager is also charged with of collecting terrorist information under Section 58 of the Terrorism Act 2000.

He faces a further charge of possessing an indecent image of a child.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was remanded in custody.

He is due to appear next at the Old Bailey on Friday (June 5).
