St Albans optician raises over £500 in community Sleepout supporting Hertfordshire homelessness charities

St Albans optical store director, Lewis Carroll, raised over £553 after taking part in this year’s community Sleepout to support people experiencing homelessness in Hertfordshire.
Held at Oaklands College and organised by homelessness night shelter Open Door St Albans, the Sleepout brought together local businesses and residents for a night with the aim of raising vital funds for organisations providing emergency shelter, hot meals, and long-term support for people affected by homelessness.
Speaking on the success of the Sleepout, Lewis says: ‘We are incredibly proud to have taken part in this year’s Sleepout and even prouder to have raised over £500 to support such essential local services.
‘Although spending a night outside cannot reflect the true realities of homelessness, it served as a reminder of how essential safe and stable housing is. The generosity of our community means a great deal to us, and we’re grateful to everyone who donated.’
The Sleepout is run in partnership with charities including Herts Young Homeless, Emmaus Hertfordshire, The Living Room, and Centre 33, all of which work year-round to support people across the region.
Ali Hashim, Optical Director at Specsavers St Albans, adds: ‘The team’s commitment to the Sleepout reflects our ongoing dedication to supporting local causes.
‘We’re so proud of Lewis and everyone who took part. Being able to contribute to organisations doing such crucial work for our community is something we will always stand behind.’
